From now on, whenever we talk about the IWRC’s virtual reality painter training system, we will no longer simply refer to it as simply the VirtualPaint, but the AWARD-WINNING VirtualPaint!

Earlier this month, the IWRC, along with The Ames Laboratory, a U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science national laboratory operated at Iowa State University, co-won a Federal Laboratory Consortium’s (FLC) Excellence in Technology Transfer regional award for the work in upgrading the VirtualPaint's software. The award seeks to recognize outstanding work in the process of transferring federally developed technology by FLC member laboratories.

Through six years of customer feedback, three years of applied research, and one year of software development with Ames Lab, the IWRC has been working to prepare the latest version of VirtualPaint software for release. The updates made to the system make the award-winning VirtualPaint the most comprehensive and effective virtual reality training system available for spray painters.

The Federal Laboratory Consortium Mid-Continent Region presented the Excellence in Technology Transfer award at its meeting in San Antonio on September 6. Other award winners include NASA Johnson Space Center, General Motors, Air Force Research Laboratory, and more.
