Court Avenue Restaurant and Brewing Co. (CABCo) has become the first Des Moines area brewery to join the Iowa Green Brewery Certification program.

CABCo is the 10th Iowa craft brewery to join the certification program but the first from the Des Moines metro area. “I’m excited to have Court Avenue be the first brewery out of Des Moines to be added to the certification program,” says Joe Bolick, project manager for the Iowa Green Brewery Certification program.

Two of the major highlights that allowed CABCo to achieve bronze certification was their recent recycling expansion and their diversion of spent grain going to the landfill, instead, it is used by a farmer as feed. That is aside from qualifications all breweries have to achieve regarding environmental sustainability and management.

Bolick and the certification program team have been working with CABCo since earlier this year providing them recommendations as well as on-site environmental technical assistance. “Every brewery may make beer in a similar fashion but each one we work with is unique,” Bolick continues. “Being on-site allows us to provide each one with recommendations that are customized to their processes, procedures, and even atmosphere and staff.”
