Saving Scraps: A Culinary CompetitionJoin us at one of the feature events of the Midwest Food Recovery Summit - Saving Scraps: A Culinary Competition, sponsored by Winnow Solutions

This year, we’re excited to welcome students from the Iowa Culinary Institute™ at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC). The institute is Iowa's premier culinary program and offers opportunities for the public to experience the culinary world at DMACC and participate in activities involving their Culinary Arts students and staff. At the summit, two teams of students will compete to showcase innovative and unique ways to present our judges with delicious gourmet food made from...FOOD SCRAPS!

When

Wednesday, September 12, 2018

6:00 - 7:30 p.m.

Showdown Details

Doors open at 6:00 p.m.

The teams will be introduced and food scrap options are unveiled. Students get time to meal plan and then get started cooking, preparing, and eventually, plating, in front of the audience.

When time is up, students will present the meals to the judges explaining how the food scraps were used. Judges will then deliberate and awards will be announced.

Food stations will be set up and a cash bar will be available throughout the event.
