Dan Nickey and UNI President, Dr. Ruud

Every year, the University of Northern Iowa, specifically the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost, the UNI Foundation and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs at UNI, hold a celebration to honor and recognize faculty and staff that seek, obtain and manage external funding.

This year, the IWRC was fortunate to have one of our own recognized, our Associate Director, Dan Nickey. Nickey received an award for his work in pursuing external funding and manages the projects when funding is received. On November 13, Nickey accepted his award from UNI President Dr. Ruud; the Interim Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs, Mike Licari; and Assistant Provost for Research and Sponsored Programs, Christine Twait.

This has included roles with past projects such as the Iowa Food Waste Reduction Project and the Iowa Construction and Demolition Waste Reduction Project, as well as current projects such as the Iowa Industrial, Commercial and Institutional (ICI) Food Waste Generator Study and the Food Waste Composting Education Program.
