Iowa Waste Reduction Turns Green for a Good Cause

IWRC Turns Green for a Good Cause

On August 8, the Iowa Waste Reduction Center’s (IWRC) painter training program turned in their traditional purple and gray colors for green to assist the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) and Northern Iowa Student Government (NISG)’s new Green Dot Program.

IWRC painter training staff spent the day painting nearly 200 4-inch wooden circles that will represent an action or choice a person takes in their daily life to make their community safer.

The Green Dot program is a campus-wide initiative focused on gender violence prevention with the ultimate goal of keeping everyone who spends time on campus safe, and striving for the day when Green Dots outnumber Red Dots.

“The IWRC was thrilled to be asked to paint the 200 green dots. We are supportive of the Green Dot mission of promoting a safer campus and are happy to help get this new program off the ground,” says Chris Lampe, IWRC Senior Program Manager.

The primary focus of the painter training program is on training military and contract painters with the goal of increasing painter efficiency and reducing waste from the painting and coating operations.

By enlisting the help of other university programs, the Green Dot program is truly a campus-wide initiative. The official kick off of the Green Dot program is September 21 at 7:00 pm in Maucker Union.

The IWRC is proud to be a part of the UNI community and its efforts to create a safe environment for everyone who lives, works and learns on campus.
