DYERSVILLE, IowaTextile Brewing has been awarded Platinum level certification from the Iowa Green Brewery Certification (IGBC) program. The IGBC is an environmental assistance program of the Iowa Waste Reduction Center (IWRC) at the University of Northern Iowa. The program awards certifications to Iowa craft breweries that have implemented sustainable practices within their facilities and brewing operations.

Textile Brewing began working towards certification not long after they opened their doors in 2019. “Textile has been just an incredible brewery to work with. They have an amazing team that is dedicated to both making great beer and minimizing their environmental impact,” says Joe Bolick, Director of the Iowa Waste Reduction Center. “They are the epitome of continuous improvement. From initially earning a bronze certification, they have implemented new practices year after year to climb levels to Silver, then Gold, to now the pinnacle, Platinum.”

Textile Brewing achieved Platinum certification by implementing a variety of sustainable practices including: a solar array installed on the roof, the building entirely containing energy-saving LED bulbs, the use of materials in the brewery and taproom that are repurposed from the former sewing factory, and a new pollinator habitat lining the south side of the building.

“We are very excited to have finally achieved the Platinum level of the Green Brewing Certification, a goal we have been working toward since we opened six years ago,”  says Tom Olberding, owner of Textile Brewing. “Being the first small brewery in Iowa to reach this achievement will show others that it can be done! We have learned so much through this process and are determined to continue and improve our sustainable methods each year."

Textile Brewing joins Big Grove Brewery (Iowa City & Des Moines), Exile Brewing Company (Des Moines), No Coast Brewing (Oskaloosa) and Singlespeed Brewing (Waterloo) as Platinum certified Iowa Green Brewery.
